Altered Artist Books

Book Reviews of Altered Artist Books

In class the students in Basic Sculpture and Ceramics created altered artist books based on a concept that was derived from a sketchbook prompt: Draw a sequential thought.  The students were given a variety of mixed media materials along with carving techniques to create an old recycled book, (donated from our school library) into a sculptural work of art.  Their multi - layered concepts were composed as a book format with an introduction, body and a conclusion.  The students peer critiqued their classmates' altered artist books for their visual subject matter: art elements and principles of design.  They also reviewed them as book critics when they had to describe in a peer critique, the story being told in the students' altered artist books.
